- 12th – We talk a lot about tofu, which is made from soy. But there are many other forms of soy that are just as versatile and delicious: edamame, miso, and others.
- 23rd – Grilling, the great American summer pastime. But what if you don’t eat meat? This discussion will focus on the variety of foods available for vegetarians to grill – and even share with meat-eaters! Fruits, vegetables, and other meat-free foods will be available to grill./li>

- 1st – If you are looking at cutting back on the cheese you eat, that might mean cutting out pizza. However, pizza can be great without cheese, or with some great substitutes.
- 12th – For the first in our new series featuring international vegetarian recipes, we celebrate Haitian Heritage Month. We will discuss some staples in Haitian cuisine, as well as what people can do to help the recently devastated country.

- 13th – Tofu comes in many varieties, one of which is silken tofu. This versatile food is best in soups, dips, and desserts and is a great source of protein. Join us to learn about cooking methods and recipes featuring silken tofu!
- 24th – If you are excluding cheese from your diet, pizza may be one of those foods to which you have said farewell. But with alternatives to cheese, or even without cheese, pizza can be completely plant-based AND delicious!

- 7th – Online Resources People have lots of questions about vegetarianism and veganism. Let us arm you with information that is both accurate and understandable. These resources will include health information as well as information about hidden animal ingredients.
- 11th – Family Recipes Have a recipe you just don’t know how to make vegetarian or vegan? Bring it in and we will help you identify products and ingredients that can be used as substitutes for any non-animal-friendly foods. Even if you’re not sure it can be done, we accept the challenge!

- 13th – Combining Foods: The Best and Worst Some foods work wonders when they are served in combination with each other, such as iron and vitamin C. We will discuss some of these combinations, as well as some combinations that do not work well and should be avoided for the best health benefits.
- 24th – Nuts and Seeds: Not Just for the Birds Nuts have gotten a bad rap for being too high in fat to be part of a healthy diet, but nuts and seeds contain a wide variety of necessary vitamins for our diets. Go a little nutty and find out how to best include them in your diet!

- 9th – The World of Beans Beans come in a variety of shapes and flavors, and they are versatile enought to fit into several different types of cuisines. Today we will discuss both more common and less common types of beans.
- 20th – B12 and Other Vitamins Vitamins should be of concern to everyone, whether meat is part of your diet or not. Today we will discuss how to get a variety of necessary vitamins and which of those are a little tougher to get when you do not eat meat.

- 11th – The Environmental Impact of Our Diets Do you ever wonder what kind of an impact the food you eat has on the environment? In honor of Earth Day, we will discuss how the meat industry affects the Earth, as well as the effect that vegetarian and vegan diets can have. Refreshments will be provided!
- 18th – Lawrence, KS Earth Day Event WE WILL NOT BE MEETING AT THE LIBRARY TODAY!! The WKVS is on the road to Lawrence, Kansas to participate in the Earth Day Celebration. If you want to take a road trip, feel free to check out the parade and tables set up in South Park at 11th and Massachusetts Street in Lawrence.

- 14th – Where Do You Get Your Protein?? Vegetarians and vegans get used to hearing this question a lot! Protein is a valuable nutrient that everyone needs, and the first source many people think of is meat. We will discuss how much protein is actually required in our diets, and the many sources of protein available with a vegetarian or vegan diet. This is great information, whether you are looking to eat healthier or more ethically. Food and drink will be provided!
- 21st – Learning to Use Tempeh Tempeh, like tofu, is made from soybeans, but its preparation can be quite different. It originated in Indonesia, but is featured in many cuisines around the world. Tempeh is a great source of protein, and we will feature recipes for Baked Tempeh and Tempeh-Salad Sandwiches.

- 14th – This discussion will center on an episode of the FX series “30 Days.” Morgan Spurlock, creator of Supersize Me, introduces us to a die-hard hunter who goes to live with a family of animal activists for one month. This potential life-changing experience answers some questions while opening up new ones.
- 21st – Tofu is a food that is mysterious to many: you may have heard of it, but you might not know what to do with it—or even why you would eat it! This is your chance to learn more about this versatile ingredient and how to use the many different varieties. You will have the opportunity to sample firm tofu in a barbecue dish, as well as silken tofu in pumpkin pie!

- 10th – Many people make a pledge to change their diet for the new year. If you’ve been thinking about eliminating meat or other animal products from your diet, what better time than the present? This discussion will focus around reasons to change your diet, as well as how to stick with the changes you have made.
- 24th – We all have traditional family recipes that we want to pass on, but if you are making a switch to a vegetarian or vegan diet, how can you keep these treasured dishes? Today we will focus on a variety of ingredients that can be substituted for different animal products such as eggs, milk, and butter.

- 6th – Parental Perspective. Ronda Kinderkencht (mother of Marleah) and Vonda Keever (mother of Ryan) will be present at this meeting to help give concerns they have had or may still have when there two oldest children became vegetarians and then went vegan.

- 8th – Mary Prewit, HSUS Kansas Director, will be guest speaking and providing information about the campaigns and issues it has and is currently working on.
